We are Mimi and Jonas Hill, co-owners of Blue Sky Trekking and Travel

ABOUT

US

We have been seasonally guiding outdoor experiences together since 2016, all over the world. In the fall of 2016, we walked the Camino de Santiago, a 500-mile trail across the country of Spain. This journey sparked our interest in walking long distances and our love for walking places together. Since then, we have decided to dedicate our lives to sharing these sorts of experiences with others.

We are both originally from the United States, but currently call the Northern Coast of Spain home. We spend majority of our year making the dream of Blue Sky a reality but also make time to pursue other passions and opportunities. Our favorite places to host group experiences include: the Picos de Europa in Spain, the Lofoten Islands in Norway, and the Chamonix Valley in France. We love to hike steep and technical trails, trail run in community, experience new cultures, and document it all with a camera in hand.

JONAS

is probably running around in the mountains with a camera and a big bag of snacks.

Jonas began guiding adventure travel trips in 2013, after graduating from university. He studied science in school, which has greatly influenced the way that he spends time outdoors; with closer attention to geology, dendrology, and all living systems.

When he’s not guiding for Blue Sky or running the business, he’s usually out taking photos, working on a video editing project, or getting lost on a trail somewhere. Whatever he’s doing, Jonas is likely practicing maximum enthusiasm.

MIMI

is likely out on a hike with a book in her backpack.

Mimi was heavily involved with her school’s outing program, beginning in 2012, which led to her working in adventure travel beginning in 2016. She studied fine art in school and sees her time spent outdoors as an outlet for creativity. Her art practice allows her to connect with the outdoors in a way that feels like a collaborative creation of life.

When she’s not guiding for Blue Sky or running the business, she’s usually reading a good book, knitting a wool hat, learning to surf, or researching the next place she’d like to travel.

why blue sky?

At Blue Sky, our passion is centered around building connections. Connections with the landscape, with yourself, and with others. We want a multi-day trek in the mountains to provide you the time, space, and opportunity to bond with those you’ve chosen to share this experience with, or with new people you meet on the trip, in ways that otherwise might not have happened. We want you to feel the beautiful expanse of the landscape so powerfully that it inspires you. Maybe it brings you to tears, or maybe it brings you to give a little ‘woot!’ of excitement. We want you to feel confident in your body and your ability to persevere through a challenging experience. And most of all, we want you to leave with a story worth telling. And with an experience that has shaped you for the better.

“One day, we have to walk our questions, our yearnings, our longings. We have to set out into those mysteries, even with the uncertainty. Especially the uncertainty. Make it magnificent. We take the adventure, not naively, but knowing that this is what a grown up does. We embark. Let your children see you do it. Set sail, take the wing, commit to the stomp. Evoke playful boldness that makes even angels swoon. There’s likely something tremendous waiting.”

Martin Shaw, Navigating the Mysteries
