T

he essence of this adventure is a marriage between the courageous character of Buck Wild Coffee and the curious calling of Blue Sky Trekking & Travel. Every detail of this trip has been designed with Wild Spirited Women in mind.

TRIP ESSENCE

We like to consider the Picos de Europa to be a hidden gem of Spain, and quite frankly, all of Europe. The National Park spans three different regions of Northern Spain and sits just a few kilometers from the coast of the Atlantic ocean. It is comprised of massive limestone massifs, rolling green valleys, and gorges carved by centuries of flowing water. The villages are humble and charming, and most neighbors are grazing animals. You’ll find yourself in awe at the geological features this park so effortlessly displays. This small corner of Spain is one of our favorite places on this planet. The mountains are rugged, the trails are wild, and the culture is vibrant and welcoming. We’ll have the opportunity to stay in small mountain towns where life is more simple and nature feels a bit closer.

The week will take us from the mountains to the sea: first, a rugged hut trip in the Picos de Europa National Park. Second, a relaxing retreat on the rural Northern coastline.

We’ll begin with a 4-day hut trip, staying in rustic and secluded mountain refuges. The hiking will cover rocky, steep & technical trails, as well as mellow 4x4 roads, all the while surrounded by limestone peaks, crystal clear streams, and beech forests.

Think: you’re going backpacking, but you don’t need to carry a sleeping bag, tent, or cooking supplies because we’re staying in huts, baby!

The second part of our trip will take place in the coastal town of San Vicente de la Barquera. This portion of the trip is designed to be a retreat, allowing us to relax a bit after our big push in the mountains. We’ll get out for a mellow coastal hike, share a slow yoga practice, enjoy time on the beach, eat good food, relax at
Casa Ohana, and maybe even get out for a surf.

Our goal is to connect with ourselves, with the landscape, and with one another through this shared experience of trekking, traveling, and copious cups of Buck Wild Coffee.

IN COLLABORATION WITH:

BUCK WILD COFFEE

Meet Jenny, founder of Buck Wild Coffee and co-host of Wild Spirit:

“Hi! I'm Jenny, an entrepreneur with a deep love for the outdoors, living in the small mountain town of Carbondale, Colorado. I co-own a coffee business with my parents, a family venture that's been brewing for nearly three decades. My passion for connecting with women in the outdoors inspired me to found Boot Tan Fest, an all-women ski and snowboard festival that celebrates community, adventure, and womanhood.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me savoring a quiet cup of coffee surrounded by nature, whether it's with friends or in peaceful solitude. I’m an avid horsewoman, snowboarder, and mountain biker, always seeking out the next adventure. I'm thrilled to join this trek and look forward to the connections and memories we’ll create together in the stunning Picos de Europa."

Ps. This is not a horse packing trip. We just like horses around here.

YOUR HOSTS

MIMI

“It has been a long-time dream of mine to host an all-women’s trip like Wild Spirit and I can hardly believe that it’s finally happening! It feels so kismet that Jenny and I met a few years ago in Colorado through a shared love for coffee and art, and it is a dream come true for us to join our businesses together in such a meaningful way. This will be my 10th year guiding trips like this and my 4th year guiding with my own business (Blue Sky); this trip feels like the perfect way to celebrate a decade of adventure travel. To all the women who choose to join us on this adventure, I’m already so giddy to share this with you! Let’s step into this together; powerfully creating the sort of friendships, travel experiences, and outdoor escapades that our hearts so strongly desire.

JENNY

“Waking up in the woods and having coffee with the humans I'm with is my happy place. It's the quietest part of the day before the adventure happens and is a chance to connect with yourself, nature, and friends deeply. I'm passionate about intentionally collaborating and bringing groups of women together, so it feels natural to collaborate with Mimi and Blue Sky Trekking. We met at a coffee/art event and I knew she was someone I'd like to spend more time with. Trekking through the mountains of Spain with her & a group of women seems like a dream and I can't wait to pack my bags! I think this trip will be transformational for myself and all who join. There is something so special about being with only women in the backcountry."

Comfort Level 2.5/4

The mountain nights of our trip will be a 2/4, as we’re staying in shared bunk rooms. The coastal nights will be a 3/4, as we’re staying in a rural villa.

CHALLENGE LEVEL 3/4

The hiking will be challenging with steep and technical trails.

Important Note: The exact details of the hiking itinerary are subject to change due to unexpected circumstances, such as weather. Due to the challenging nature of the hiking on this trip, we ask that you only sign up if you have experience and are comfortable traversing technical trail, walking long distances, and gaining steep elevation. With that being said, this is a pace inclusive trip and we will try our best to accommodate the pace needs of the group. If you have questions or concerns about this, please reach out to this!

On this trip, we will be staying in an array of different types of accommodations, including: small and locally owned hotels, rustic mountain refuges, and a rural surf hotel. In the mountain huts, we will be sleeping in shared bunk rooms. In the hotels, we will be in either single or shared rooms (1-3 people), depending on availability.

Our Lodging:

On this trip, we will set out on daily adventures into the mountains. Besides our hiking time, we encourage each participant to make time for creative pursuits- whatever that might look like for you! We like to bring watercolor kits along on our hikes, make sketches, write and read poetry, and we’re big fans of the occasional costume.

Activities

We plan to facilitate daily circles that might include yoga, meditation, drawing, writing, and drinking cups of coffee together.

Once we make it to the coast, you will have the opportunity to rent a surfboard if that is of interest to you!

WEATHER

Due to it’s proximity to the ocean, the weather in the Picos can oftentimes be unpredictable. Because of this, appropriate gear and positive attitudes are necessary! One moment it might be foggy and drizzling and the next moment the sun might shine through to reveal a rainbow. It is all a part of the experience of this beautiful mountain range!
